Lock-up and knockout

Victorious Sthembiso Buthelezi (red helmet) goes for the knock-out blow in his match against Sthembiso Khumalo

Ray Peyters

SUNDAY produced all the right ingredients for a wonderful and exciting inaugural boxing tournament at Qalakabusha Prison outside Empangeni.
As tournament referee, I entered the spotlessly clean recreation hall and saw the expectant crowd and the enthusiasm of the boxers and knew we were in for an exciting time - and so it was.
The boxing inmates, who are trained by ex-Pro fighter Anthony Morodi, known as the Blue Jaguar in his fighting days, challenged local boxers from the outside and this produced non-stop fireworks.
I must congratulate the prison officials who have gone out of their way with organising good rehabilitation programmes using soccer, Zulu dancing, karate, Isicathamiya craftwork, religion and gospel music and education.
Well done Area Commissioner Nxele.
In this modern age we need positive action like this taking place at Qalakabusha.
