| Grantleigh changing of the guard Tanya Waterworth AFTER establishing itself as a leading private school in Zululand, Grantleigh School has confirmed new developments to consolidate its position in the region. Headmaster Shaun McMurtry said at a meeting of the Board of Governors, a sub-committee was established to initiate the process of transferring the ownership of land and buildings from the current RF Grant Trust to the Grantleigh Trust, which currently owns all of the Grantleigh's moveable assets. 'The school's founders, Fred and Renette Grant intend playing a less prominent role in the governance of the school, which is in line with our succession planning. 'We are ready to build on eleven highly successful years and the time is now ripe for the school to establish its own financial independence and executive autonomy,' said McMurtry. He confirmed that earlier in the year, eight additional appointments were made to the Board of Governors, which move will lodge executive authority, strategic planning and operational responsibility with the Board. 'The current members of the Board of Governors will resign to take up positions on the Board of Trustees, the role of which is to assume fiduciary and proprietary responsibility of the Grantleigh Trust,' he said. A strategic planning workshop was also recently held at the school to focus on the most critical results to be achieved over the next five years and to establish a planning framework to implement an action plan. The top priority identified at the workshop was the transfer of ownership of the school buildings and grounds from the founders' personal trust to the Grantleigh Trust. 'We are very excited by the prospect of broader community involvement and enhanced parent input into our school's future,' said McMurtry. | |
