THE Wawina Cup, a rugby development seven-a-side tournament which has been in progress with preliminary rounds over the past six weeks, ran its course with the finals at Mick Kelly Park this weekend.
The tournament, the first of its kind in Zululand, was a great success.
The tournament consisted of two divisions, the under 16 and under 18 age groups, with matches played on a league basis.
eSikhaleni emerged as champions in the U18 group after beating Hluhluwe in the final, while Kwa-Dlangezwa beat Mtuba to claim the U16 title.
In the plate event Vryheid took the honours in the U18 competition, beating Mtuba, while Ngwelezane picked up the under 16 title, beating Ulundi.
All the winners and runners-up were given equipment, trophies, medals and Wawina meal vouchers.
The trophies and prizes were handed out by Graham Henderson, Managing Director of Empangeni Milling.
