RUGBY star, Jaco Erasmus had high praise for the development of rugby in Zululand when the Italian No 8 paid a brief visit to the Richards Bay Rugby Club on Wednesday.
Visiting his hometown, Empangeni, he said the growth of the sport in Richards Bay and Empangeni was particularly good for junior level and to increase competitiveness in all divisions. Erasmus, who was enjoying a short break with his Italian wife, Claudia and 10-month old son, Alex at his family home in Empangeni, returns to Italy on Thursday.
'Mum will kick me if I don't
come back, so I make a trip down
to Empangeni every year to spend time with my family.'

Born and bred in Zululand, Erasmus started his rugby days at Empangeni High School and the Empangeni Rugby Club before going through the Sharks Academy. He then got the opportunity to play in Italy and joined rugby club, Bolonga before moving to Viadana. His moment of glory emerged when he joined the Italian national squad in last year's Rugby World Cup.
However, Erasmus told the Zululand Observer that his most emotional and exhilarating moment was coming on as a substitute against the Springboks in Cape Town two weeks ago.
But the talented star admits that he will continue playing rugby for Italy.
'I have now settled in Italy and will stay there until I stop playing rugby.'
